As much as I love Disney, they’ve got a point.

OOC:
I kinda feel they looked wayyy too deep into Disney and missed the real point. Cinderella went after what she wanted. She did something for herself. She went to the ball, and JUST SO HAPPENED to find a Prince who liked her. It doesn’t mean he was like “oohh pretty girl. Gonna marry her.” They could have talked about alot of things. You don’t really know. Making that assumption just kinda ruins it.
Snow White.. Snow White is about having friends there to help you in your most dire of times. She might have been beautiful, but never did she once say “oh I’m a beeautifull woman..” she was too focused on doing good things for others. The man didn’t even come in until the end. (and once again, he might have seen her looks, but he might have also seen that she was sweet, and obviously had little friends there with her.. so.. maybe she’s a good person too?)
Sleeping Beauty. That’s a really hard one to even analyze to be honest. The original story and the Disney story are more moving pieces of art than real “story-plot-lines.” But like the fairies say, “Love Conquers All.” And it does. Love can travel through vines and sleepy years, distances and disguises. It always wins if its real love. (Again, nothing really about beauty.)
Jasmine .. well lets be honest. The whole “having to marry for political gain” is something that happens even today. And that’s just how it was back then too. It was about who you could marry and who would bring in the most money to your father to keep the peace. It might not be that way here in the US, or in other countries, but we’re talking about the middle east-back then in history. Disney is just trying to keep some historical accuracy to the story. and at the end, does she marry for wealth? No. She marries the man who has the largest heart-not bank account.
To even reduce Belle to the whole “Beauty is all that matters..” is just.. awful. I don’t even know how to defend her without getting angry. Belle is everything that I always wanted to be growing up, and being an adult. It’s looking PAST the image of a person, and looking deep into the heart. If you know anything about the story of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty has two other sisters who are cruel and beautiful, and yet Beauty is kind and gentle and doesn’t “depend on her looks.” Belle had a beautiful heart. To be honest, I think that’s why Beauty even has her name. Because she’s beautiful on the inside. She touches people’s lives and the Beast’s heart.
So.
they might have some “points” but.. you’re totally missing what Disney is trying to say. This world isn’t about beauty and looks, and I don’t think others should be trying to reduce Disney to that either. It’s saddening.

And I just realized I forgot Ariel! How could I forget her! I play her!
First. If you know ANYTHING about Ariel, she’s ALWAYS wanted to be a human. She ALWAYS dreamed of going to the surface and being different. Lots of people do alot of things for their dreams. You can be an actress and get a nose job, or you can fall in love with a man and change your hair color because he likes brunettes instead of blondes. I’m not saying that its okay to change, but if its a change that YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PURSUE.. then.. why not? Second of all. Ariel did not change FOR Eric. She was drive by her father’s verbal abuse.. (does everyone just forget that scene or something?!) And Ursula was the one who was like “Ooooh MANNN. You could go after him! Have a place to stay instead of living on the streets and suffering.” and LETS BE HONEST it was just Disney Fate that Eric was on the beach that day and found her. Love drives you to do alot of crazy things, dreams drive you to do alot of crazy things. Eric didn’t fall in love with her looks… give him credit. He fell in love with her personality. You don’t have to speak to have a personality. We’re so focused on “being silenced” yet.. sooo many things can be said with just a glance or a smile, or an action. Actions SPEAK LOUDER than words.
